Hackney Interchange (LOSTAT)

Client

C Spencer Ltd

Value

£126,500

The Challenge

A new 200m footbridge was being built to connect Hackney Central Station to Hackney Downs Station in Central London, and the client needed a partner to fully manage all of the M&E installations. The site was extremely challenging, located as it was between two major over ground stations, and the consequences of unplanned shutdowns or project over-run were potentially significant and serious. Add to this the proximity of neighbouring businesses who would be affected by the development works and there was the potential for a catalogue of issues.

The Solution

We partnered with the client and installed a new DNO and distribution system to supply the footbridge and resupply Hackney Central, and then installed supplies, distribution, small power and lighting to the new footbridge lift, as well as new LED lighting and a containment system along the entire length of the footbridge. The walkway saw a CAT 5 Bib Tap installed, and we also managed supplies to the dedicated PHP, CIS Oyster and PAM Systems. Finally, under an agreement with the client at the build outset, we completed additional refurbishment of local business premises affected by the build.

From a management and documentation perspective, the project was delivered seamlessly and efficiently. Orton’s staff interfaced well with the Spencer site management team and also TFL’s client team. From tender through to project delivery and handover, the Hackney Interchange Project was dealt with in a very competent and professional manner. I will have no hesitation in returning to Orton for repeat business in the near future.

The Outcome

Not only did we win praise from Transport for London and from the client for the quality of our work and for our flexible and positive approach – particularly on such a challenging build – but we came in on time, on budget and with no unplanned shutdowns to either station. As an added bonus for the client, the neighbouring businesses were delighted with their refurbishment too.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Orton Group for the excellent service and quality of workmanship provided on this project. Although the programme became quite fluid and challenging as the works progressed, Orton Group reacted as required with professionalism and haste to ensure the programme deadlines were achieved.
